Founder note

Why I built NepalIPMS

Not because “LegalTech is a market.” Because renewals lived in someone’s head until a client called angry.

Context

IP practice in Nepal mixes Department of Industry status, bilingual bulletins, and firm files that never quite matched. I was close enough to the desk to see the panic — and technical enough to refuse another spreadsheet “system.”

Problem

Matters, deadlines, documents, and register search were fragmented. The cost showed up as missed renewals and slow answers on live calls.

Observation

Generic practice management pretended law was one workflow. IP desks have a specific shape: company → file → matter → asset — plus a register that must be searchable in seconds.

Decision

Build a domain product, not a CRM with legal labels. Edge-native stack (Workers, D1, R2) so a small team could operate it. Later: OCR intake with human review — not a chat demo.

Outcome

Production platform used by IP firms — 130K+ trademark records, 300+ APIs, 150+ migrations. Live at nepalipms.com.

Lesson

Ship the desk model first. Infrastructure and AI features earn their place when they attach to owned records. See product · proof · workflow.
